2014 - KETU, DISSOLUTION, the Year of Facing the End of Reality Denial
2014, a KETU cycle
 Comprised of the number of the Moon (2), the 0 - or great Void - the number of the Sun (1) and the number of Rahu (4). Added together a number seven: the number of Ketu. Ketu in Vedic tradition represents the South Node of the Moon, which is depicted as a headless torso with the body of a fish. Ketu is considered a malefic vibration, however, less so than Rahu (it's opposite by 180 degrees), the North Node of the Moon. Ketu has the unique feature amongst the planetary influences to be considered a moksha karaka, the spiritual liberator. Ketu represents endings and dissolution of all kinds. The effect of Ketu promotes discrimination and psychic abilities based on past karmas. One becomes less interested in the temporal material psychodrama, and is more inclined to spiritual awakening, such as mindfulness practice, as one has less ambitions and motivation to pursue the mundane realm.
Ketu is a big reminder of cause and effect as he reflects our karma from the past, and subsequently has us face the "here and now" propelled by what we accrued through previous actions. 2014 will be an eventful and memorable year, as in the planetary cosmology Ketu is the agent of endings/dissolution and often manifests in sudden and unexpected results.
Ketu acts like Mars, he is fierce, hot tempered by nature, and highly karmic in his delivery. Ketu deviously, will sometimes prompt us to shun and shy away from necessary experiences, sometimes to the point of escapism and denial of reality thru outright rejection, all from a previous karmic imprint.

2014 is a cycle where reality denial will become unaffordable. Circumstantially world events will be of such magnitude that we will feel compelled to face the fears of our mortality. The theme will be personal survival versus species survival, as we have the opportunity to recognize in the deepest stream of consciousness that none of us will get out of here alive. The observation that the fear of mortality is a serious psychological difficulty for humans dates back thousands of years. The Mahabharata, ancient text of India, reports that humans were expressing surprise at our ability to deny the reality of death more than four thousands years ago. In one chapter, the Pandavas encounter a yaksha (spirit), who asks - after a series of many testing questions, "What is the greatest surprise?", Yuddhisthira replied "People die every day, making us aware that men are mortal. Yet we live, work, play and plan, as if assuming we are immortal. What is more surprising than that?".
Humans are surprisingly indifferent to their immortality, which as we can see dates back to pre-history. 2014 will be a year cycle to ponder the meaning of life, becoming more detached from the futility of life, becoming more aware of the fact that one will die and leave this world of samsara (illusion). Subsequently we may resolve to live a more decent, honest and pious life, being present to the impermanence of life and our greedy ambitions to control the cycle of destiny will have a new meaning.
2014 will bring, especially in the first 3 months of the year, so much devastation, doom and gloom that we may choose to awaken and become more responsible for the time left.
We cannot continue to have unrealistic expectations regarding the global state of our affairs. We jointly contribute perpetuating in the denial of reality, cause and effect, collective karma due, and there needs to be a shift before a new world order can find its balance from the arrogant human selfishness. It is a good idea to expand ones perceptual conception in light of the fact that death is the ultimate reality for all of us, so why wait to be the best you can be? Perhaps once we acknowledge the reality that each of us has only a very limited span of time on this planet, we all might choose to make a better go of it during the time we are all here.
This overall Ketu cycle experience can be converted into a very positive vibration, by adhering to the credo "Live each day as if it was your last", and relish every moment in its highest potential. As Stephen Grellet (1775-1855) so eloquently put it: "I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."
A lot of the dangerous and risky behavior, selfish and cruel actions of the past, are based on this reality denial and suppression of mortality of our species, as it led us to overconfidence, arrogance, boundless ego dominance, without considering long term consequences, and the devastating depletion of our joint resources. Ketu will mirror this denial by confronting us with the past through natural calamities, more wars, pandemics and the general karmic purge illuminating our unskilled, irresponsible and ineffective conduct. The big question is then are we capable of diminishing denial sufficiently to solve our current dilemmas? Can we create a spiritual construct that can satisfy our acceptance of mortality, without letting it drive our lives and society to oblivion?
As always, the first step is the recognition of the problem, embracing the idea that reality denial is a fundamental part of human nature. For only by knowing this enemy can we consciously change our innate destructive behavioral tendencies. As we are presently in a state of denial about our denial of reality, this is not an easy problem to overcome in a daily basis. We don't have that much time to solve our current value crisis. Even utilizing our whole scientific and technological progress, we would be wise to each meditate daily and commitedly, coming clear with Source, instead of continuing to avoid, pretend and rationalize what we do not like to acknowledge or think about. |

The overall themes of 2014 will be:
 Celestial speedup that will appear to us as acceleration and intensification of how events are perceived and manifest, potentially resulting in more personal and global anxiety. - Earth changes, sudden and extreme climate events, resulting in similar unexpected harsh occurrences as we have recently experienced for instance with the Philippines typhoon (the highest on record), snow in Jerusalem and Egypt, extreme tidal movements in the British Isles, premature onset of winter and arctic temperatures in Canada - with devastating ice storms, the ongoing Fukushima saga and its global radiation threat. The possibility of more explosions and earthquakes.
- The probability of war remains high, and we might want to keep attentive to countries such as North Korea, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Israel, where tensions around ideological, religious, territorial and economical disputes continue to aggravate. Because of the Martian theme of the Ketu cycle, we can expect more violence and unrest.
- Health issues such as pandemics, which the governments will try to control through their poisonous vaccination schemes. Fitness and nutrition will be amongst the most prominent personal resolutions, as people clamor to regain their immunity, and not succumb to mass terror of shortening real food supplies, losing their vitality, and thereby shorten their life span.
- Economically, there will be a stress on the world financial system, as the perceived security of world currencies becomes more nebulous. I sense there will be a big "shake up" in the way we relate to and trade money. The changes to world economy will be bigger than we have experienced before, and again it will be a sudden occurrence.
- Gloom and doom and panic will be the main themes because Ketu is the dissolver. Resistance is futile.
The light at the end of the tunnel is that people will be forced to come together like never before, and genuine community will arise out of necessity. More connectivity, more awareness of our Oneness.
The second half of the year looks much better as some purging has raised our awareness to the necessity of our inter-connectivity. Humbled by the world events, we will be more spiritually receptive about the cyclic nature of existence, and liberated by Ketu's endings. We will be ready for rebirth.

Starting in January the main players will be:
In January (up to 30 th ), retrograde Venus affecting our relationships and how we treat one another, in terms of our ideals of love and how we actually express and manifest that day-to-day. As with all planets, it's useful to know your personal chart, as it will be more specific how this will affect your own life.
Mars is in Virgo up to early July. Mars will be in Virgo during most of the first half of the year, with a brief visit to Libra in February, and turning retrograde early March. Themes of health will be predominant, and a burgeoning interest in fitness, nutrition. What you put in your body becomes your body. Lifestyle changes, such as Yoga and Ayurveda will soar.
Jupiter in Gemini during the first half of the year continues to cast supportive aspect to Sagittarius, Aquarius and Libra. In Libra, Jupiter's aspect has softened the transits of Saturn and Rahu, with his benefic influence. In late February (Feb 25 to early March), Jupiter will aspect the Sun in Aquarius, which will bring up positive developments in terms of causes and teaching life affirming principles to humanity.
Rahu Ketu move into Virgo Pisces Axis on July14th. This is a significant change, as the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu stay in a zodiac sign for 18 months. Thus, the shift happening will be valid thorough the second half of 2014 and all of 2015. This transit should bring a more positive influence from the nodes, as Rahu in Virgo (with its ruler Mercury) and Ketu in Pisces (with its ruler Jupiter) tend to produce good results. Rahu might bring technological innovations, and Ketu spiritual breakthroughs.
Jupiter in Cancer (July 18 th ), enters its sign of Exaltation. Qualities of inspiration, expansion, new hope and meaning come to the fore. It also provides an uplifting energy to the signs of Sagittarius and Pisces, which Jupiter rules. Jupiter is Guru, the remover of darkness and enemy to no one.
Mars in Libra (July 14 th ) marks another important shift in mid-July! This will be a relief for Virgo Ascendants, where Mars has been for almost 9 months. Mars moves into Libra, where it will be conjunct Saturn. This will affect particularly relationships, which might feel a greater intensity and pressure.
Saturn enters Scorpio (November 2 nd ). After being for 2.5 years in Libra, where relationships were front and foremost, Saturn moves into Scorpio, a water Sign. The focus will shift to our emotional self, and the key will be having courage to explore the emotional depths and stabilize the emotions.
Sun in Scorpio, conjunct with Saturn (mid-November/mid-December). Sun entering in Scorpio will provide us the impetus and courage to confront our fears and insecurities. The aspect of Jupiter to Scorpio will inspire us to lighten up and lite up the dark corners of the psyche. |
