It is the process of knowledgably preparing and understandably eating something reverent and essential for the development of consciousness as well as our physical health. A nutritious diet is required to maintain health and combat diseases. But a nutritious diet solely will not meet our bodys needs. There is to be considered what and how we cook, what, when and how much we eat and what affect it will have on our body and mind. Intake of proper food promotes longevity, does not aggravate the doshas, and maintains a proper digestive system. Ayurvedically speaking, there is no general standard diet. Since each one of us is built differently; with a particular prakriti (constitution) and an agni (digestive fire), our ideal diet will also be distinct. Nevertheless, based the corresponding states of mind, ayurveda categorizes food into three kinds - Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic. Sattvic food such as fresh vegetables, fruits, honey and dairy products are said to be divinely enriching. While chillies, garlic, onion, tobacco, meat, alcohol and foods that are spicy and chemically processed belong to the Rajasic category and are inclined towards materialism. Fermented, canned or persevered foods are considered Tamasic that lead to pessimistic attitude. Then again, each time we cook, there is a little of our essence that permeates into the preparation, which creates its own kind of variation. Daily extensive Tara practise with sublime chanting and dharma teachings by Jeff Munoz, complimented by hikes, meditation, and a communal meal with other Tara practitioners, living on the mountain.
